Fuzzy Moment on MNF
December 11, 2007
Last night, ESPN had Falcon’s owner Arthur Blank in the booth. Arthur was asked if he thought Michael Vick could play again in the NFL once he got out of prison. Mr. Blank had some, let’s say, concerns:
“The earliest he could be back would be 2010 and that depends what the commissioner decides to do when he is released from prison. If Michael makes a mistake and eats fried chicken and French fries everyday he could come out weighing 250 pounds and he won’t be able to play football. How he’s going to be able to keep himself in shape, maintain himself, stay athletically tuned and mentally tuned, I don’t know.”
The moment he said it, I obviously thought of Fuzzy Zoeller of course. Was it a big deal? I don’t think so, but I’m white…what the hell do I know? I guess the question I would have to ask is; if this was Keith Brookings who was going to jail, would he have said “fried chicken” and if so, would anyone care? The obvious answer to both is, no…because we all know Brookings eats the heads off dead pengiuns.
I’d be curious to see if this sparks up anywhere. A quick Google search and I already found a few links about the remarks here, here and here.
I’m actually hoping this becomes a big deal. Not that I want anything to happen to Arthur Blank. I’m sure Home Depot is a fine store, but maybe something like this will end this God awful practice of inviting ‘guests’ into the MNF booth. I still haven’t forgiven them for the Christian Slater fiasco.
